Name Change - New Credit File

If I change name by deed poll, then apply for a passport and driving licence in the new name, and then apply for a bank account in the new name that I have not used before, will I be able to build a credit history in the new name? If I just apply in my new name, surely having photo ID will get me approved for the account?

whether you can pull it off or not it sounds a lot like fraud to me.
  • Why would it be fraud?

    so fraud then.
    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-fraud-act-2006-repeal-of-the-deception-offences-in-the-theft-acts-1968-1996
"There are two basic requirements which must be met before any of the three limbs of the new offence can be charged. First, the behaviour of the defendant must be dishonest.[2] Second it must also be his intention to make a gain, or cause a loss to another.[3]  However, there will no longer be any need to prove that a gain or loss has been made, or that any victim was deceived by the defendant’s behaviour. Each of the three limbs of the offence carries a maximum sentence of 10 years. "
I think you clearly satisfy both requirements

You need to update your old/current accounts and lenders etc. with your new name so they can update your credit files accordingly.

Doing that would scupper the OPs plans to fraudulently apply for credit under their new identity though.

Plus if you have a new name and credit file. It would be harder to track how much you have left to pay if youe intentions are to change name.

Think off all tje faff you have to do. Chnage name everywhete that is alot of work thatbdoesnt need to be done.

You would have to commit fraud in order to do it as  you will be asked on any credit application to list any previous names so the only way to avoid putting down your current name with the negative credit record would be to lie on the form.

If they find out any you're unlucky you'll find a City of London police officer on your doorstep introducing themselves and investigating you for fraud.
If you're lucky the lender will put a CIFAS fraud marker on your credit record making it impossible to get any finance or even things like mobile phone contracts. A CIFAS fraud marker is arguably more damaging than a DMP or bankruptcy.
