Mental health and work

I’ve not been coping due to CV and an issue at work. I’ve tried to resolve but I’ve now been told I’m being redundant. I would divulge but I don’t want employer to see.

I decided to take sick leave after being notified of my redundancy as I wasn’t given any solutions by my employer to help with my stress/anxiety. Boss said to take annual leave or sick note. Took annual leave and came back to a meeting with HR.

Earlier in the year I told my manager that I will be getting nhs treatment due to MH. I already told HR 18 months ago to update file as I didn’t disclose at start of employment. I wasn’t asking for any reasonable adjustments which is why I didn’t tell them - ACAS agreed and I was working legally. Boss made a lot of comments about MH so I’m glad he didn’t know.

The occupational health report said they didn’t think I was fit enough for consultancy, and she contacted my GP. (Obviously things are bad my end, thoughts aren’t the best and It’s not solely on redundancy).

My sick note runs out next week and I’m wondering the following
1) will they undertake the consult despite the OH report saying they don’t recommend?
2) will my GP continue to sign me of? She knows how much of a toll the job has had on me, my MH isn’t the best anyway. I feel she would sign me of for longer if I wish. I’m not getting community mental health support as they keep on rejecting (that’s another issue).
3) They were planning to make the final decision three day before my 2 year anniversary. The sick note has pushed my employment over the two year mark. Take that how you will.
4) big company, I’m on the lowest wage (£10k), working part time. Work has reduced but the work I do (mainly GDPR and back end) isn’t affected. Company has 7,000 employees over a few different areas. Union believe I’m the only one being redundant.

You have a union. They're much better to deal with this and answer any questions you have than we are. Can you get in touch with your rep?

With 7,000 employees what leads you to believe that you've been singled out. Somewhat unlikely I'm afraid to say.

Realistically I'm not sure how much help you can get without being a lot more descriptive of the entire situation, which you appear not to want to do.

What are you trying to achieve here?  It really reads like you're just trying to hang on for as long as you possibly can before they get rid of you, which I'm not sure is all that helpful anyway.  If you're claiming you're too stressed to work, dragging this out isn't exactly going to help your stress levels.
  • @Thrugelmir hi do you have any answers to the other points. I know that with over 20 employees they have to consult etc which is why I mentioned I’m the only one.

The business is profitable and the downturn doesn’t effect the work I do
  • @jjlandlord It’s the weekend so I can’t contact the union. Yeah of course part of me does want to get some extra money because jobs are low at the moment. I also don’t know if I’m well enough to actually deal with this. Having thoughts of suicide for the late four months is pretty bad.
  • @Diamandis yes I will speak on Monday. They can’t advise to take or longer. I’m just a bit confused by everything as I’ve never been of work due to stress. My doctor has suggested it before as I wasn’t coping earlier in the year. So i think the doctor won’t sign me back too early and I’m getting no help from community mental health.
