Trailfinders wont refund an admin charge for our holiday even though it was cancelled

Slightly complex situation, we booked a holiday in January to go to Malaysia and Singapore through trailfinders for a significant price, a few weeks after coronavirus hit Singapore, we got to February, 2 months before the holiday and because it looked impossible we thought we were doing the right thing paying an admin fee to move the hol to august. I may add the admin fee was significant approaching an extra 1k.

trailfinders have just cancelled the trip, refunded what we originally paid but won’t refund the admin fee as they say this was to move flights with ba and there is no way it will be refunded. Question is can I claim back through travel insurance or even credit card?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Rob

You will not be able to reclaim the admin fee, they provided the service at the time of moving the holiday for you. They have refunded you all that you are due.

The term admin charge is somewhat misleading. Did Trailfinders explain how the BA charge arose.

IANAL but I dont see any grounds for a refund for that portion.  You paid that to change the flights to another date, which they did. No doubt paying airlines to enact that change.
The fact that you then can't fly on that other date doesn't affect the fact you paid for a service, change flights to date X, which you got.  You got the change.  Unfortunate that the flights couldn't happen on that date but separate from whether or not the flights went. You instructed them to spend money to enact the change and they did that.

You should be able to reclaim it from travel insurance. If it was fee paid to BA to change flights, it's non-refundable by BA.
  • Many thanks for everyone’s advice, I’ll give my travel insurance a go but won’t hold my breath!
