Does the Post office close unused accounts?

Hi Folks, wonder if someone could help me.
I found a "National Savings Bank Ordinary account" book recently. The old post office one.
It has a whopping £4.00 in it! The last deposit was in September 1980.
2 things, first, what would that be worth today? (I'm guessing probably £3!) and secondly, would this account be usable or do they close them if they aren't used?
Many thanks In advance.

National Savings Bank is NS&I these days (nothing to do with Post Offices), so contact them to find out if the account is still accessible and if so, what the balance is.

Yes it's NS&I and you won't have lost your money. Go to NS&I, then help and support, then type in forgotten accounts; Alternatively click on Tracing Service brochure below.
How do I track down unclaimed or forgotten investments?
Think you might have savings or investments with us, but you’ve lost the details?
Or maybe you believe that a relative or client had an NS&I account before they died?
Ask our Tracing Service team to track it down.
