We are likely going to put our tent up in our garden. DDs have been wanting to go camping again for a few years but busy summers with junior county and club cricket has made this impossible for the past few years. I haven't wanted camping to be our main holiday as it would be miserable if the weather was bad. We normally have two weeks in a holiday lodge by the sea but we rescheduled our booking to August 21 as there is no way I could enjoy our normal type of holiday as I would be anxious all the time.
So, weather permitting, we will have a week camping in the garden with the luxury of our own toilet and shower!

I hope you manage to find something that appeals to your daughter. How about hiring a canal boat or a camper van?

Bearing in mind that children have missed so much schooling this year, do you think term time holidays will be justifiable next year?
Well a friend of mine who's holiday was cancelled in May half term was not offered any school holiday options for rebooking so has accepted a week in term time next May.  She won't be the only one!

Same scenario I read earlier on another site. Last night's insomnia had me reading an on-line article about how all children will be expected to be back in September. I'm fully expecting no term time will be authorised and referrals to be made for ths issuing of penalty notices (the official name for 'fines').For me personally this doesn't apply because child is in further education (she could lose her place though if attendance deemed unacceptable) but I wouldn't take her out because her final college year and what she does next is too important to her.

Our 2 week Florida blow out has become a week in the West Country and a week in Greece. Both places that we know well so not expecting any real problems - various options for entertainment depending on what is/isn't open. Will be interesting even so...

You are not alone in wanting a holiday.
I would just like to go home.
I came to stay with my son  just before lockdown and have been stuck here since.
I was widowed last year and my plans to sell the house that is not  suitable for me now have had to be put on hold.
I cannot travel to see my son in Romania or him travel here.
We have had to accept life will not be normal for a long time. Some experts predict the virus will still be around next year at this time, unless a vaccine is found.
It is a case of making the most of what we can do, trying to find things that are possible and we will enjoy.

I have children of 10 and 12 and we are hiring a holiday apartment  directly across from the beach in Devon.  Rationale being that my youngest is really missing swimming but pools are closed. if we are that close to the sea it should be possible to take advantage of times when the beach isn't heaving.  we are likely to spend a lot of time as normal on tablets, TV etc but at least it will be within a different four walls with a nice view and we will have a balcony on the second floor to watch the world go by.  Neither of my children are in the going back to school groups so it will be 6 months of being at home otherwise,  Going to a self contained self catered property doesn't seem like a ridiculous risk to us .

have you discussed it with your daughter?
One option might be for you to take some time off work with a view to doing day trips / staycation stuff together
You could agree with her to set aside some money to spend on doing things together, including the possibility of a long weekend later in the year - maybe splurge on a box at the theatre and nice hotel and restaurant when you go, so you can have a great day together, start planning now but with the aim of actually doing it later in the year once the he theatres reopen.( and this might well make it eaiser for rte to bring a friend along)
