Undisclosed Penalty Points (what to do?)

Hi
I got my car insurance renewed a couple of months ago and i didnt disclose penalty points
I know this is wrong, i havent been in a crash, car stolen etc, I would just like to come clean, i have 6 points
What are my best options?
1.Cancel policy, take hit financially and get insurance with another company
2. Phone up and tell them the truth

Thanks

you could try the "Only just realised" defence,

  • I was thinking that but I would hate for them to cancel the policy or something though, I dont mind paying extra but I wouldnt want to be refused and blacklisted or something

Its worse if they find out and decide to take the action without talking to you.

When did you get the 6 points?   Did you go from zero to 6 in the last year or does it go back further?

If the points were received during the life of the current policy the OP might get away with saying they didn't realise they needed to inform the insurer.  If they happened before the renewal date that simply won't work, not would trying to claim they didn't realise they had points on their licence.  How the insurer will react may differ depending on the reasons for the points.  In any event they do need to tell their insurer immediately as they could find themselves uninsured if they had to make a claim.

undeclared points and you have an accident, you will likely end up footing the bill and not the insurer

think carefully about your next course of action, maybe cancel first would be safer, as they could cancel if you tell them

either way it's going to be expensive lesson, cancelling will incur charges and you will likely not get any refund
