Public liability non transferable so older driver is classed as having 0 no claims

Options
Hi, my father is a taxi driver of over 40 years.  He is 80 and wants to retire.  He has phoned around and has been told as he has no no claims he will be around £700 for a passat 2018 1.4.  Would driving a smaller car reduce this significantly?  Any companies to try(tried Saga) or any suggestions?
Thanks

Presume you mean car insurance rather than public liability

Just try a comparison site anonymously with different cars.  There are no hard and fast rules about the size of car.
  • No taxi drivers have to have public liability to carry passengers that is the insurance rather than car insurance.

His age will also be a risk factor.

Having a small car doesn't always make it cheaper, they tend to be involved in accidents more (again risk factor).

There are guides as to what car is in what insurance group, but that doesn't help with the driver risk factors eg age, where the vehicle is parked, mileage, area, how many accidents have been in that area, cost of the accidents etc.

Simple way to check insurance is using a comparison site, although a few insurers are not on them eg direct line.
A few very cheap ones pop up, but a search through MSE reveals why they are cheap.

I always stick with the companies I've heard of and have been established for years, or are a sister company of an established insurer.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • Forgetting his age for the moment I think £700 is a pretty good price for someone with no NCD .
So then considering his age it appears to be an even better price.
    I usually pay around £350 with full NCD ( 9+ years )
So that wud mean the base premium without NCD would be in the region of £1100-£1200 .
Try the three big comparison sites ...Confused , Comparethemarket and Moneysupermarket to get an idea of the lowest premium you can expect.
