Hello,
Is anyone able to identify from this photo if the black box dangling from the front of my new home is an external tv aerial cable splitter?

I’m hoping that someone can to avoid my having to borrow a ladder to check. Also hopefully I might not have to buy a new splitter.
Thanks for your kind advice.
Best wishes.

Most splitters are powered via the aerial lead indoors . Was there something plugged into an aerial and a mains socket indoors somewhere ?Ex forum ambassador

Looks more like something to do with your telephone line or broadband. It looks ok, just fallen down, do you think its broken?

I got one like that on the outside back wall. its a telephone junction box. its been there ages, and I think over the years new stuff has been fitted, and the junction box doesnt actually do anything now. so maybe thats the same in your case, I dont know.1

Thanks for your replies. I had hoped that it was a splitter. I wanted to install a second tv aerial connection. I’ll have to buy a new splitter and find a YouTube video of how to install one
Best wishes to you all.0 -
Ps Are all outdoor aerial splitters the same in terms of signal quality? The signal to my tv currently is excellent. Ideally I would like that picture quality not to be degraded in my effort to get Freeview to my second tv.Is there a particular make/model of splitter you would recommend to buy/avoid?
Thanks again.0 -
It certainly looks like a masthead amplifier or splitterWhy do you want to replace it? Why not just secure it to the wall again?Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

Hi. There was a feeling from other folk on this thread that actually it is concerned with the phone line and not the aerial. I’m just trying to ascertain whether I need to buy a splitter or not without borrowing a ladder and going up to check lolstator said:It certainly looks like a masthead amplifier or splitterWhy do you want to replace it? they sell a wide range of splitters/signal boosters etc on amazon. I don't have one but I did recently have a new high gain aerial fitted which gives me first class reception.1

Phone cable and aerial cable don't look the same and won't take the same path. Follow where your phone cable goes from the drop wire. Does it go in to this box?Edit: having looked at the picture again, I would agree with the suggestion that it's a filter on the phone line, given the relative diameters of the two cables.
