Valspar paints OK?

There was a thread on here in October asking about Valspar paints from B&Q. The OP was a bit concerned there had been complaints that the paint smells a lot. (Apparently there was an even earlier thread on here highlighting the problem).
The consensus last year was that there was nothing wrong with Valspar paints and that the formula had probably been changed to fix the problem (if there'd ever been one).
We're planning on painting our living room and we like the look of the Valspar range. Anybody have any comments on smell, suitability, quality etc?

I woudn't buy any paint sold by DIY sheds. Go where the professionals go, trade paint counters. Dulux, Johnstones/Leyland etc.2

I've used valspar in our bedroom. No smell or anything weird like the previous threads have said. However it has an almost plastic quality to it - i'm sure someone knows the real term for what I mean.
It's a matt paint, but it still has a soft shine to it that I've never seen with other matt brands.
We used frog tape to get clean edges (it was a feature wall). When I peeled the tape off, the points where the paint had gone onto the tape clung to the paint that was still on the wall, and peeled it off there as well.
Will be using Johnstones or Dulux from now on. We pretty much did the whole house in one go, and the rooms where we used those paints were so much better!1 -

My mum used some Valspar to paint her bathroom this year and it definitely had an unpleasant smell when it was drying, but it didn't last long. Alas, I've no idea when she bought it.

Used valspar paints in 2017 to paint a few rooms. Used the mixed to order ones, some at the lowest grade, some at higher (some colours were/are only available in the more expensive mixes). No smell besides 'normal' paint smell on application, no smell at all after the initial smell had dissipated.1

Horrible paint, poor coverage, took 4 coats to go from white to pink.
Really bad chemical smell during appliacation.
Crown Trade and Johnstones Trade best paints i've used (matt and acrylic eggshell) the latter for kitchen and bathroom areas.

Johnstone's Trade all the way. Yes, it's more expensive than Valspar - but you know the old saying: Buy cheap, buy twice.
