Is there a positive side to life during this pandemic?

Like like most on here, it’s been nice to have more time, a slower pace of life and re evaluating what’s important in life. I’ve loved the extra time to cook and bake, grow fruit and veg and potter around the garden. I’ve also taken up online yoga and love it and overall realised I actually prefer a simple life. I’ve also saved quite a bit of money and improved my zero waste journey.
i have missed seeing family, but starting to do that again now and I missed a couple of holidays I had booked, but overall the positives have out weighed the negatives. However, I am lucky that I haven’t lost anyone close, it must be awful for those that lost loved ones.Well Behaved women seldom make history

Its been nice not having to be anywhere and I've enjoyed the more relaxed pace of life. As well as making my own garlic breads and naans. I will, however, be glad to get the kids back to school in September - I have absolutely not missed my calling as a teacher!Mortgage Balance June 2020 £102,824.39 Now £90,500.007

greenbee, you so deserve the good things you have found while being in lockdown. I hope you go on finding enjoyment in the next stage of whatever is going to happen. You have earned it.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Perhaps you could "move sideways" in your career so you don't have to travel all the time?
As part of my job I've been looking at data that suggests that business travel will never go back to what it was before. I'm naturally fairly unsociable, so it's a mixed blessing - the work travel forces me to be more sociable than I would normally, but at the same time it's hard work and isn't always about building long-term relationships (although to be fair, travel in this job means spending time with colleagues on a regular basis, not customers I only see for half an hour!).

I was asked by someone the other day to describe my 'dream job' so they could talk to their CEO about employing me. I pointed out that it was unlikely that they had a use for someone who would lie around reading novels and eating chocolate, but if they do, I'm definitely up for it10 -
ooohhhh
what a lovely thread.
For me it was the quiet. It's why I have always loved the first day of snow. Watching wildlife emerge. People more willing to smile, engage in conversation. Sky's clear of planes. Finding new ways to admire the people in my life because of the way they are dealing with things. A much clearer understanding of our front line workers...........all of them, dustmen, cleaners, porters, nurses, doctors, dentists, hairdressers etc.
The kindness of neighbours.

Found out that I'm tougher than I thought.
I got ill just as lockdown was announced. week earlier and I probably wouldn't have caught whatever it was
I'm still very short of breath now. But I'm breathing.
And it's been sunny enough to have the windows open.
And work is still paying me without demanding to know why I'm not back yet.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll10 -
My mental health and already poor physical health has suffered.
I have endured lockdown with 4 men either working from home or furloughed. Thankfully one has just moved out so am looking forward to gutting his bedroom and getting that sorted - well DH getting it sorted. Ive earmarked the room for me!!!
I have appreciated my garden more and have spent time doing mindful baking with DH although spending online has increased and with that difficulties with returns and post.
My DD is a front line worker and she has found this period very challenging although it is settling down now.
All in all a mixed period of time.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.9 -
I've learned to keep a sourdough starter that was gifted me alive and thriving, learned to make sourdough bread that's as nice as from the bakery and this morning made sourdough crumpets for breakfast thanks to help from my lovely mentor. That's a positive because it's made me feel a sense of achievement and given me a real cheer up!7

Ooh Boazu, do you have a recipe for sourdough crumpets? I have had a starter for years, it's like a pet - feed it and treat it well, though it doesn't have a name
I also make sourdough bread - sliced and frozen (i tend to make mine in a loaf tin, though i know that is not standard!). It toasts up well and, as i don't eat a lot of bread, is great. I also make sourdough pancakes that are also frozen and toasted as needed (lovely spread with peanut butter, topped with sliced banana, yogurt and nuts - or berries yogurt and nuts - i have it either for breakfast or lunch). We've done a couple of sourdough pizzas although yesterday's was not as nice as the previous one - it didn't cook as well. Those really help to use up the discard when you feed it.
Crumpets would be fab - although, do you need a special pan?I wanna be in the room where it happens6
