Since getting a combi boiler I have had to disinfect my kitchen drain quite frequently with disinfection and boiling water boiled in an electric kettle as the water from my hot tap is not hot enough to kill all the germs and micro organisms leading to the drain being smelly.
I never had do do this when the water from the tap was 65 deg C from the hot water tank.

You may find that there is a temperature control on the boiler to increase the temperature of the hot water.  However the generally recommended temperature is 60 degrees where a manual control is available - if there isn't it should come out at around 60 degrees.  Anything higher than this presents risk of scalding, as would using water from a boiled kettle (obviously).

Of course its entirely possible its nothing to do with the temperature of the water and something's got caught in the trap under the sink.

And they're not a "con", they're very effective as you just heat the water you need it, as opposed to the water tank method where its hot "just in case" which may not be for several hours to come.
