PCN for £0.00?!

Received a PCN today from the County Council. It’s a legit notice, definitely not a scam, but the fine issued is £0.00. I’m advised that if I pay within 14 days it will be reduced to £0.00, which is nice.  I rang up to ‘pay’ and after typing in the code I was told the PCN was now cancelled! Anyone had this before?

The offence (if it makes any difference was parking for over 2 hours). Again, it’s irrelevant but it did irritate me that I know for a fact that the half dozen cars adjacent to me had all been there all morning as well but I was the only one with a ticket.

Sounds like a CEO who needed re-training on how to use his/her handheld device!  It's cancelled so it's over.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I am assuming the PCN came in the post so the council breached GDPR (no reasonable cause to access your data). If so,  I would send a letter before action for breach of GDPR requesting £300.  Let us know the response.  I will help you at no cost to you - and no financial gain to me (beamerguy - despite less than 1000 posts I really do not need/want the money).

A PCN would be affixed to the vehicle, so no details accessed from DVLA.

In any case, why would you think fleecing a public body of £300 for a complete non-event is a good idea - apart from greed. Sure, take private parking companies to the cleaners, but the whole concept of financial penalties and the like against tax-funded bodies doesn't achieve much.

I agree with Slithy Tove about the LBA, but it might warrant a "give the council a polite reminder about them doing this without reason"?

I had a different demand once for £0.00 from a previous ISP some time ago.
The only way they said it could be stopped was by sending a cheque for zero pounds and zero pence as it was a computer issue at their end generating this.

It could also have been a "warning".
