If they want to hold you to the booking, can you not go anyway?
  • I’m now looking into that but we cancelled our annual leave and the ferry.  Bloody Scottish Government changing their dates!
  • It just gets worse - ferry company not accepting bookings til a week before we go. So even if we do pay it, there’s no guarantee we’ll be able to get there as ferry capacity has been cut in half and there’s only two a day to start with. This is an absolute !!!!!! show! (I’m banging my head off the table now. Too early for a drink?)

If you just lose your deposit cancelling I would cancel and accept that as a loss, one of those things. Not worth the stress and hassle.
  • Oh gosh does sound a nightmare but no point in anyone telling you what you should have done (to be fair you are far from the only ones who jumped too quickly)

So damage limitation.   Where are you going?   Is Ferry your only option?   Guessing it must be otherwise you would consider a road trip.

Maybe you can approach the company and lay out your problems telling them what you have told us and that you have cancelled the ferry and your holiday dates at work on the basis of the conversation you had?    Ask them if there is any way you can transfer the whole lot to a future date?   (some are being more than reasonable, others not so but can only try)

I do hope you can reach some sort of amicable solution,   A very confusing, trying time for all.  Good luck.
  • That’s my best case scenario Sharpe06 and I’d be happy with that. Waiting to hear back...
  • Phew - update this morning, is cancelled, no deposit refund but no need to pay the balance.  That’s the best I could have hoped for. Thanks for the replies.

That is good, at least it is done. One of those things.
