TUI cancellation policy

Hi everyone. I am due to fly to Florida north 4th September with my partner and our daughter however we have tried to cancel due to the breakout of COVID cases there. Its noted to be the new epicentre so we dont want to take a chance.
TUI state in their Ts and Cs that we will lose our deposit if we cancel more than 70 days out, which I'm fine with. When we spoke to them they said we would lose an additional £250 per person due to it being a long haul flight, surely this cant be right as I coukdnt find anything related to that in our paperwork? Has anyone encountered this as this was to be my first trip abroad and I dont know what the standard procedure for this would be? Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

I cant see anything in their online terms and conditions stating that. Respectfully ask them where it appears, you may have got through to someone who has the wrong end of the stick. You are dangerously close to 70 days notice here though so be quick.1

Is it a TUI flight or another airline ?!Ex forum ambassador

This wasn't one of their low deposit bookings was it? If you cancel you lose not just the 'deposit' you paid, but have to also cough up the additional amount that takes it up to what the full deposit would have been without the low deposit offer. A few have tripped over this.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0

Martin Lewis has given lots of advice to people who booked on line. None to those of us unwise enough to book in store.0

I was in this position. I booked in store for a holiday in late July. I only paid the first part of the deposit and then I waited. I was offered a free opportunity to change for next year but the price of the same holiday had gone up by £500! So I continues to wait. On 25 June I received an email cancelling the holiday and offering a £500 discount if I amended the holiday to next year within 15 days. I did this and was finally able to rebook the same holiday for next year at the same price! However, I did have to pay the second part of the deposit.0
