Send this back to Amazon?

I can never resist a bargain, and when Amazon were selling i5-9400 CPUs for £72, I ordered one. They are now £150-ish on Amazon, and £120-ish on ebay, so it was undoubtedly a good buy, although of course there's a newer version out now.

There was a long delay in Amazon delivering it to me, and I forgot I'd ordered it. In the meantime, I bought other components and built the PC I needed. So, what do I do with the surplus CPU?

1. I can send it back to Amazon. That's hassle-free and risk-free. I get my £72 back.
2. I can ebay it. After charges, that nets around £105, but there are loads of sharks around. There's a reasonable chance of somebody swindling me. It just isn't worth the risk for £30 more.

Is there an alternative to those that makes any sense? I certainly don't want to keep it 'just in case it comes in handy'.

I've always been put off at selling that kind of thing on eBay due to people that buy them just to return a broken one and get to keep your nice working item. With eBay siding with the buyer most of the time.

Chances of that happening are probably extremely low, but still possible.

If you do go down the route of selling it on eBay, just take a note of all serial numbers to try and help your case.

Agree Ebay isn't the best option, very seller unfriendly policies that can be a nightmare for individual sellers.

Could always post on gumtree for a week, see what happens and if you can get a local cash sale? But don't miss any return deadlines for amazon because that's got to be your best bet.

I’ll give gumtree a go. Thanks for the advice. Thanks also for confirming that I’m not nuts to be wary of ebay for this sort of thing.
