Chorley Building Society Account Number is too Long

Hi there, I was just transferring to a new bank from an old Chorley BS account only to find that the account number is 10 digits and the online transfer only allows the input of eight.
The account number format is 1234-12345-1. Do I simply lose the final two digits?
Thanks.

The 8-digit number will be your current account number - which you shouldn't have a need to enter as you can only transfer out to your linked account which you must have registered previously.
There should be no need to enter your Chorley BS number.
That is assuming that you are initiating the transfer in your Chorley online banking.0 -
What do you mean by 'transferring' to a new bank? What are you trying to do? As Chorley is a building society, not a bank, they hold a central account number with a clearing bank that all customer deposits go into and the 10 digit 'account number' is used as the reference so Chorley can identify the account.gininteacups said:Hi there, I was just transferring to a new bank from an old Chorley BS account only to find that the account number is 10 digits and the online transfer only allows the input of eight.

Oh, may be I misunderstood what you are trying to do. Is your new account number a 10-digit number?
In which case: The only account you can transfer out to from a Chorley account is your linked current account.
If you then want to send the money on from your current account to the place with the 10 digit account number, ask them how you make deposits. It is likely that they give you a sort code and account number, plus a Reference to specify. That Reference is probably your 10 digit account number but you really have to check with the receiving place. Consider making a very small initial deposit, to ensure you have specified the right details, and only send the rest once you have confirmed the initial transfer.2 -
Thanks both, I am trying to transfer a Chorley Child Trust Fund (ten digits) to an NS&I Jnr ISA (which asks for the acc. number but only has space for eight digits)?0

Put it as the reference number if there's a field for it and leave account number blank.gininteacups said:Thanks both, I am trying to transfer a Chorley Child Trust Fund (ten digits) to an NS&I Jnr ISA (which asks for the acc. number but only has space for eight digits)?1
