ScottishPower Excluding Current Customers from their Cheapest Tariffs
The cheapest tariff I’ve found currently from ScottishPower is “Super Saver June 2021 B2”. However, if you do an energy comparison check and enter your own details as a ScottishPower customer you won’t see it listed, as it will be filtered out (totally invisible!) I only discovered the tariff existed when entering a relative’s details who is with Bulb.
Hey, I understand there’s nothing illegal about a company that wants to give new customers a discont deal. We know that broadband companies do it all the time, eg Virgin Media, but I guess I’m so annoyed with ScottishPower because its so hidden, they’re not open about it unlike broadband companies, and the discount amounts to a staggering £200 cheaper than the cheapest fixed deal offered to their own customers. (using my figures anyway)
Luckily, I’ve got a better tariff than the one mentioned but it shows you, it pays to switch supplier at the end of your tariff, especially in the case of being a ScottishPower customer where you are not valued at all and treated like, well, a fool!
Maybe ScottishPower aren’t the only energy supplier up to this caper.

This has been common place throughout the industry for years. Quite often these special 'deals' will only be available through certain price comparison websites.0

As they are allowed to do in OFGEM's drive to make the energy market "fair and open" - you couldn't make it up !

Eon are the same. They wouldn't let me move to their cheapest tariff even when I was out of contract. They just said it was a business decision to make it available to new customers only and the cheapest tariff available to me was much more expensive.0

Some of the cheaper British Gas tariffs (British Gas X) are so secret that the BG call centres have never heard of them, and think it's a scam !It's a common practice, just like insurance companies that will quote a high renewal premium for existing customers, but give tasty discounts to new customers.Never be loyal !0

The energy industry is not unique for doing it, you get the same problem with house insurance, car insurance and car breakdown cover to name just a few. However, in all those cases a phone call pointing out that you're unhappy almost always secures an equivalent deal. If an energy company doesn't want your custom, take it elsewhere - in the case of Scottish Power there are probably lots of cheaper options.0
