Double Glazing Issue - urgent help

I purchased 2 windows and a double glazed back door. The windows are fine but the back door doesn't open as the fitter requested. I signed and paid for the products and was given a copy of the contract which I duly put in my handbag and forgot about. The supplier is now saying that as the contract was signed, it was my fitter that ordered the wrong door and the contract is signed with the wrong door on it. The fitter has been calling into the supplier on a daily basis and has been fobbed off for 3 days now with the promise that the manager is going to call him. No luck. What if anything can I do as the door is inappropriate and doesn't open how it needs to open. PS. according to the supplier, the fitter should have described the door and opening as viewed from the outside of the building, but the fitter asked for it from inside view. The contract does say "windows & doors viewed from outside", however, they managed to get the windows correct from the inside view.

If you choose to save money by buying products yourself and paying someone to fit them, you have to be the one that takes responsibility for checking that the order is absolutely correct, because there is no one to take responsibility for it. Even I use the same company to supply and fit but I check the order very, very carefully and take my own measurements too, to be sure.Contractually, it seems like your argument is that the windows aren't as specified in the contract. Are they symmetrical though, which means they end up fine?Whether you can work the windows to get you a new door? I'd just wish you luck with it.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thanks for the feedback. The windows are no problem. They are as asked for. It's the back door that's the problem. It doesn't open in the direction it needs to open in. From the inside view I needed a right to left opening to the outside. I have been supplied with an outside view right to left outside opening. I signed the contract whilst paying the deposit, a copy wasn't given to the fitter (who has used this company many times before with no problem), I kept the copy as a receipt for the part payment. Even if I had looked at the contract, as an unfamiliar with window company jargon person, wouldn't have known anything was wrong. Seems like I'm stuck with a hole in my wall and a useless door standing in my way!0

I think you are going to have to accept that you will need to bear the cost of replacing the door. The current door and frame will have some value as long as it is removed carefully.

Thanks all. I will try to ebay the door. It is still in its seal and uninstalled so hopefully someone will need a door that size and can collect. Here's hoping!!0
