Hi
I’ve recently had a quote from a local flooring firm to fit new flooring in 3 rooms of my house. I currently have carpets and have asked that they be replaced by Karndean / Moduleo / Similar. I picked a few examples out and asked them to quote.

I checked google for the actual flooring and worked out I could get it for around £1000, given my room measurements.
The room sizes are:
Room1: 3.7m x 7.5m
Room1: 3.7m x 7.5m
Room2: 3.8m x 3.3m
Room3: 2.3m x 1.8m
The quote I received was £4,000 including:
£1,700 for the flooring
£600 for screening / ply board
£1,500 fitting charge
£200 to remove old carpet
£80 for moving furniture around
I have never had this done before so really have no idea, but this feels pretty expensive. Particularly given they’ve quoted £700 more for the flooring itself compared to what I found online by doing some quick googling. Also, £600 for screening/ply excluding labour which is another £1,500 on top feels a lot, but I’d appreciate any thoughts on if I’m just expecting too much.
Thanks!

Hi.. I am not sure which part of the country you are in for the fitting rates. I had this done just before Christmas and my total area was about 32 sqm so about 10-12sqm less than yours.. I had Amtico done which was about £35 a sqm i think.. and was in parquet style so more time needed to layout.. I had already removed the carpets myself and exposed the floor and in one of the rooms it was laminate so he got it removed as part of the price and did not charge extra.
We paid about 2800 for his including VAT.
the ply was 6mm ply, also the floor was not completely level so had to use a self leveling compound which was about 250 if not could have been a bit more cheaper i guess on my final price.. I was pretty much in your shoes when I could find the lvt's cheap online but most of the manufacturers do not honor the warranty unless it is purchased through an authorized reseller and installed by an authorized floor installer as well..
Get a few quotes in to compare as well.

Thanks, that’s really helpful.I live near Birmingham, not sure what that means for pricing.
I chose from the more basic ranges, and I understand Amtico is generally considered more expensive that Karndean / Moduleo. I also chose a strip layout, not parquet, so it does feel like a lot considering what you had done.I’ll get a couple more quotes to compare and see but hopefully they’ll be a little more reasonable. I was hoping for something around 2-3k all in, but that might be optimistic.0 -
Seems a bit expensive, Can you move old carpet and furniture yourself to begin with? Have you got another quote?1

I could do some of that, yeah. They just quoted for it by default I suppose.I’ve called around and got someone coming tomorrow for another quote and I’ll try and get someone else too so I can compare. Hopefully they’ll be more reasonable.
Thanks!0
