Cruise booked in October if it is not cancelled (haven't been told yet) my passport is due for renewal in February I have checked on foreign office site and it says the countries we are visiting only need a passport valid for the day you visit. Do you think I should renew it.

My advice would be to definitely renew your passport before October as many countries require six months of passport validity. The information you have received may only apply now. Could change? But I wouldn't want to risk not being able to go because I hadn't got a 'valid' passport in line with the terms and conditions of the country/s I am visiting. You used to be able to get the unused months transferred to a new one but I don't think that applies now. Kind of makes it stupid when really you are only getting 9 and half months of a ten year passport? But....personally I wouldn't want to risk it all. Up to you of course.0

Without telling us what countries you are visiting, nobody can answer your question. But if you have been on the various websites and it says you only need it valid for the day you visit, surely that answers your question1
