I supply complaint

any suggestions as to how i can resolve a dispute with isupply. They ignore my letters and emails and have just handed the debt onto a collection agency. I changed supplier last December no problem and was paying by direct debit. In April the sent me a cheque because they said I had overpaid by being on the wrong tariff. In June they sent me an overdue account letter together with an late payment fee. I replied by letter as this was the first correspondence i had received. My account was managed on line but as I have now finished with them I no longer have access. After my letter I received another one with another late payment fee I sent an email this time attaching the original letter , then today I receive a letter from a collection agency. My argument is a 1. why wasn't this sorted at the time they could have just increased my direct debit 2. why send me refund 3. how can you add on late payment fees when I knew nothing about it. Please help the ombudsman cant as my complaint is not 8 weeks old yet

Your first 2 points are not really relevant, #1,they are not obliged to raise your direct debit even if your payments are not covering your usage, and of course right up until the final meter reading when you left it may not have been apparent that your usage was a bit higher than estimated if you were not providing regular meter readings.#2, the refund may in fact have been a mistake and if so they are still entitled to correct that mistake, so when you get a refund you are not expecting it is good advice to save it and don't spend it straight away if you don't fully understand and agree with the reason for it being sent.Re #3 have you told the collection agency that you are disputing the claim that payment is due? If you haven't then they will simply assume you are ignoring them and will continue to add the late payment notices. It is important to dispute the debt and ask them to prove it as you have not received an invoice from the old energy company. CAB website has good advice on the format for that.1
