Gym membership - Post CV19 I dont want to go.

Hi Everyone,
Hoping for a little advice here. I joined a smaller gym and paid a year up front. I didnt go much. However, post CV19 I can't think of anywhere you are more likely to pick it up! Hot sweaty people breathing heavily and dripping sweat (ok, so they wipe it with a towel if they are nice, but that doesnt get rid of it!) In short I dont want to go back. The gym, when contacted said they will extend the contract, but I dont want that. I just want a refund.
I think its reasonable, given the circumstances?
What are your thoughts?

I do not think it is reasonable to expect a refund, you signed up for a year, you paid for a year, it is not them saying you will not be able to use it, but you choosing not to. It will come down to their terms and conditions, but I very much doubt that not wanting to go will in any way entitle you to a refund.4

No, not reasonable at all to expect a refund.
If you no longer want to go, just terminate in line with the contract.1 -
They won’t refund you just because you no longer wish to go. You can break the contract by all means but you will have to accept the financial hit in doing so.0

I don't think this is reasonable at all, they have offered to extend your contract so you can use the facilities but the fact that you no longer wish to (for obvious reasons) is not likely to get you a refund.0

You are choosing not to go, that is your prerogative. They owe you diddly squat.1

Sounds like you'd pretty much stopped going before covid intervened, so using covid as an excuse for a refund isn't particularly reasonable. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Seems to be fairly common consensus then
Once my gym opens (in Wales -
will be a while yet) - I'll be going back and taking relevant
precautions. I've got a facemask, plenty of alcohol gel, will be wiping
things left right and centre, and will steer clear of anyone huffing and
puffing. (Well 2m away at least). After all this sitting down - we need
a bit of fitness - I've gained a couple of kilos - so I need to lose
them! For your case - cancel if you want - but take the financial hit -
they are still offering the service - they will put in place standard
safety provisions - it'll likely be as safe as wandering the aisles of
Asda on a Saturday afternoon, or probably safer than sitting on
Bournemouth beach from the photos I've seen today.
