Cancelled return flight from UAE

My husband and I have been stuck in Dubai since lockdown began, fortunately we are staying with our daughters so no financial strain there.  I had downloaded the BA app so I didn't have to keep logging into the website and right up until 24 hours before, it showed that our flight was still going ahead on 28th March, it was only when I logged on to check-in did I find out our flight was cancelled. We never received an email to advise us this. Since then we have had 6 flights cancelled and after reading a piece on this site with regards to BA placing you on to another flight ie with Etihad, I asked the question when phoning to make a new booking.  This in fact is not the case as Etihad or Emirates are not members of the one world airlines organization so we therefore have to continue to wait for BA to be able to fly to the UAE or take a voucher. The value of this voucher may go to paying a quarter of the cost for a one way flight from here in the future.  I understand that part of the cost we paid for the flight has already been used for our flight out but I do feel this is a con as far as we are concerned they owe us a flight home. I am lucky enough to be furloughed but my husband is self-employed and is therefore not able to earn at the moment, so if the next flight we have booked cancels we may have to bite the bullet, as they say and pay our around 360 GBP each to get home
