O/S Daily Wednesday 24 June 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Bright sunny start to the day, warm already.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS2 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was liver, bacon, sausage, mash, veg and gravy - delicious. Tonight will be scampi, chips and peas for the menfolk, I'll be having baked fish and veg.
Yesterday work was either all or nothing - so we'll have to wait and see what today brings - but it's my last working day of the week then I'm on days' off until Monday.
I also have managed to get a hair appointment booked for the week hairdressers are able to open - hoping there's no change in the situation between now and then.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It feels very hot already so goodness knows what it will feel like when we hit the forecast 30 deg later! I think that is too hot even for me to sit out in reading.
I had a lovely afternoon with my friend yesterday. She arrived with a bottle of wine, even though I had already told her I had some chilling in the fridge. The weather wasn't too hot for her as we kept getting cloud cover and there was a gentle breeze blowing. The hours flew by and all too soon her DH had arrived to pick her up again, with a promise we will do it again soon.
Now how could I judge my surgery harshly yesterday! By mid morning I had a reply to my e-request which told me the medication I had requested had been sanctioned and passed on to my local pharmacy to collect! For once good service from them! Time will tell whether they are any help.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. REDRUBY I hope yesterday went as well as it could. Take care all and stay safe xx

Good morning, and thanks NMLC.It's a sunny morning here, and the forecast is good, we have no particular plans for the day, apart from putting a few plants in. We'll probably sit outside in the shade, I don't sunbathe. Dh can stand the sun better than me, and tans easily. We went early to the garden centre yesterday,, and there weren't many people there, though quite a few were driving in as we left. Our hairdresser texted yesterday offering an appointment for a fortnight's time, so we've snapped that up - she asked us to wash our hair before we went so if it's fine she'll cut it in the garden, for extra safety.. she is very safety conscious, so I should think she'll wear a mask.We are looking at going away in the caravan towards the end of July, somewhere near like North Yorks if possible. We can use our own facilities, and we always go to decent well run sites anyway. We'll see how it goes. DD and family are hoping to go to their static caravan in the next two weeks, and that is totally self contained of course.Hope everyone has a good day, enjoy the sunshine folks14

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
It is scorchio here already. I have been up since 4, I'm going to the dentist for root canal work and am a bit apprehensive, not sure why as it is not the first time.
Then will probably sit out in the shade in my tidied and mown garden, I'm not good at sitting in the sun.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning all, and thanks for starting us off nmlc. Hope your last day at work this week goes smoothly.
TA, what a lovely day you must have had yesterday, a visit from a friend with drinking and gossip and then a prescription turning up. I bet your cup ran over.
ScarletRibbons, you and me both with the hairdressing appointments. Mine is on 4th July and I can't wait. Neither can my hairdresser, she has been champing at the bit for some time. She loves her work and has not been too happy at being holed up with husband and children for weeks. As she said, she loves them all dearly but you can have too much of a good thing.
I have an exciting day today. The window cleaner is coming and I have an hour's telephone meeting with the Will writing firm I found online. I had a sudden panic that my Will was very out of date and not at all what I wanted to happen now. The pandemic sort of concentrates the mind on these things. Anyway, this firm has been brilliant, very friendly and efficient and considerably cheaper than most solicitors fees that I've been quoted. Apparently it is the Power of Attourney that costs so much, and there is no getting round that.
After that I think I may set up my own spa in competition with Nelskis. I have a patch of weeds where folk can sunbathe and a water filled paint roller tray that I'm sure the birds won't mind sharing. I will even offer a bit of de-fuzzing if you like. I have a new spray bottle of Roundup. Well, it works on weeds. Please form an orderly and socially distant queue.
Oh, and it's BYO wine. There are limits to my generosity.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I'm having people over to stare at their phones later - if you want to come by.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.13 -
Good morning everyone
What a lovely sunny morning it is here, my grandchildren have just left for school after lots of hugs and kisses so I feel very loved today . I am still waiting to hear from my consultant so I am a bit jumpy if the phone goes. I just want to know one way or the other and then I can settle down again. Redruby, I am thinking of you xx
Not a lot planned today, I have three knitting projects on the go as I can't settle to anything for long. I don't like the yarn on any of them though so they are not making me too happy. I have ordered more sparkly wool and a pattern for a beanie hat for Lilly as she messaged me the other day asking for a few more as the one I made for her is her favourite hat. They knit up nice and quickly so I was happy to oblige...and I got to buy more wool, yay!
Steve is in charge of domestics today and has got a couple of steak pies out for dinner. I will have salad with mine as it is too hot for gravy .He cut the grass yesterday and got bitten by a horse fly so has a very sore arm today. I am keeping an eye on it as the bites can get infected very quickly. Phoebe was overjoyed (not) to hear BoJo's announcement yesterday as it means she will have to go back to work. She has really enjoyed the time off but her sleep pattern is all over the place so she will have to get to bed earlier this week to get ready for her early starts again.
I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning all
Dog walked and its already shaping up to be a warm one we have turned the heat off in the tub so will get in later as i have a guy coming to give a quote to do the garden so i don't think answering the door in my bathers will be a good look.
Ruby I hope the appointment went well
I have a hairdressers appointment and a nail appointment they are in the same place but i am not sure if hair will go ahead as the nail bar can't open so i may have to carry on looking like hagrid for a while
Right off for a root round in the freezer for dinner ideas
Have a good day whatever you are up to xxSlava Ukraini12 -
Morning all, it was hot yesterday and I'm not looking forward the to 30 odd degrees predicted today, I love the sun but not the heat. Yesterday I levelled the garden and finished it off with the old gardeners dance the " stomp and shuffle" Now I need to decide what type of gravel stuff to put on it. I can either go with the same as the front garden borders or go rogue and do something completely different. Decisions, decisions.I'm up earlier than normal as some builders were and still are, making a racket. There is a house on the opposite side, a few houses down that has been gutted. The firm started before lockdown and I think they are trying to catch up as I've never seen so many builders in one place, at one time........not that I'm looking through my binoculars I shall mow the lawns in a minute before it gets too hot and as the builders are so noisy, I don't think anyone will notice the mower going too.Nothing much else will be done today except sit in the sun/shade and read. We are having burgers al fresco tonight, so Mr Fix It will be the chef and I shall be the "lady of leisure". (I might help out and make a side salad though.)AOD good luck today.RedRuby hugs coming your way no matter what the outcome yesterday.Scarlett hope you can get away in your van. Not much chance for us sadly.taff tell your DH to be careful or he could end up in the DW if he's naughty. Enjoy washing every dish my friend.Right I'm off to mow the lawns. I wish I had a robot one that would do it for me.Take care all. Hugs to anyone in need and for any reason.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11

RedRuby - thinking of you xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.9 -
Morning all. Scorchio here too. If we had a pool of any kind it would be just like being in Greece on holiday. I went to bed last night and set the fan for an hour to blow on me. I fell asleep to it's dulcet tones. Also managed to sleep in a different position so I'm not half as achey this morning, nor do I have the usual stiff knee. It's all good.Didn't get round to putting up the cabinet, I did ask OH to take it upstairs for me to assemble but he still hasnt.Instead I pulled up some breeze blacks that were making a path around the thing at the back on the one side [ the opposite side to where we've dug and where the fox cub comes in] because they were uneven, dug out a couple of bags of soil and put them back more evenly. I couldn't put two back because they were uneven due to next doors fence posts concrete but at least I'm in far less danger of falling on them now. And he de-rusted the trough and gate which he'll be panting black today. Now I just have to find a water pump of some kind. I'd like a continuously running one [ a gentle sploosh not a whacking great ka-thud of water] just because otherwise all the mosquitoes will think it's their birthday.OHs mam called round, brinigng bread pudding [which OH doesn't like, oh dear....] and sat under the tree for a while having a chat. I'm making a banana cake in exchange but not today, too hot for the oven. She had a tree taken down by someone so we asked for their details to see if he'll [ vicously, thoroughly and irreveocably ] trim the branches from the monster on our side. More wood for us and the wood store idea is stil percolating. I'll be dropping off a chair and two pots to a friend today, was supposed to be last friday but the weather was !!!!!!.Hope the news was what you were expecting Ruby. Nels! It's the day! Are you ready to be put through your paces? Good luck! dumpling, poor Steve, those bites are nasty. AOD< hope the dentist expereince isn't too nasty! TA, wonders abound Monna you're not selling it, but it did make me laugh...Nanny, does that mean if I put him in the machine of future delights I can have a revised version, an OH.beta.v2 ? Uh oh.....Don't work too hard today, mow the lawn then lady of leisure yourself! Bella, a cool tub! Jealous...:) Scalet, nice to hear of your visit to the garden center. I will live vicariously through your visits for a while Hey all reading along, hope you're doing well, enjoy the wonders of Wednesday!Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...9

Morning all.Hope the heat is ok for you all. It’s a bit cooler up here but I was still glad to enjoy an early dog walk while it’s still cool.Couple of meetings for me today, one Skype, one Teams, also plenty of emails to keep me going.Easy lunch if something and salad. Light tea. No shopping needed till the weekend.Hoping Nicola allows an inside visit. I will appreciate whatever easing we get though.Take care all x8
