    Yes they can do it.

I assume the debt was from when you were in England and your old electric company have their head office in English? If so, having two out of three (the third being you) in England means they can issue court proceedings in England and under English law.

    Do you dispute the debt?

Is the bill outstanding or have you previously paid it? What is your actual dispute?

I wanted to leave them to go to another company and they had calculated a final bill of over £800 but they said to pay 500 and I could leave them and pay they rest later, but after I paid 500 and left I told them that there was no way I owed that much cis I was hardly in the house to use that much electricity so I disputed it with them and they were supposed to get in Touch with me but they never did

Did you provide them with meter readings and when you left them?
Did you ever follow it up with them to see why they haven't got back to you?

Yes I provided them with meter readings, and before I paid the 500 pound I was speaking to them and they said everything was correct but I told them it couldn't be and I never followed it up

They get a county court judgment against you if you ignore it.
