Our industry has tight limits on health.
If I fail a medical that means I can't work offshore. This in turn means I could be earning half or less than what I did before.
I believe standard critical illness cover isn't going to help me because it is designed for illness that prevents any work. In my case I am still able to work, just not in the industry I trained for.
Specialist insurance broker?
Tips for searching with google?

Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker

Are you sure you want CI and not PHI (permanent health insurance).
CI provides a lump sum for a very limited list of illnesses.
This is useful for putting in a stair lift or for a final holiday or having some choices about private medical treatment.
PHI provides an income until retirement if you cannot work (some policies specify YOUR job, other ANY job so an important distinction).
Clearly the 2 products are very different.
In my opinion CI is pretty useless and a bit of a luxury but regardless of my opinion make sure you are fully aware of what you are buying and that it meets your needs.
Does your employer, union or industry have any advice?
What about recommendations from colleagues in the same job?0
