Banks and Businesses etc updating of address databases

Hi,
I have recently moved to a new house which isn't on some databases, but is others. How do banks, businesses, etc go about updating their address databases....
I have contacted royal mail and told them about my new address and it appears on their databases if I do a postcode search. Is it the Royal Mail database that banks and businesses 'connect or 'link into when you need to insert an address into an online form?
Why would some websites show my address and others not? is it simply a matter of waiting for them to update their systems or is there some universal way for me to get all online banks/businesses to show my address by going to some magical website and inputting my address for all systems to update?
Cheers.

Royal Mail's Postcode Address File (PAF) is effectively the underlying master data set but it's resold via numerous intermediaries to businesses who can use it in various ways, and propagation of updates can be variable too.
Where businesses such as banks aren't able to recognise an address they'll often provide some manual entry facility, but if that's not an option when you're trying to update your info online then you'll have to contact them.
They're ultimately legally obliged by the Data Protection Act to keep their data about you accurate, so if you encounter significant difficulties updating a change of address then you should pursue the matter via their data controller....2 -
From past experience it can a bit of time to trickle to all systems. In some cases it can cause delays in account opening as there may be no info to cross check with and/or the manual entries may contain variations that systems are not normalising.
