School trip rescheduled due to covid

Hi, advise please, my daughters school trip to Auschwitz was cancelled from September to March 2021 by her school due to covid, they’ve said if she doesn’t go we will loose our £250. Deposit, if we choose to go ahead it will cost in addition to the remaining balance an additional £160. ... they’ve done this without prior asking if the date is convenient.. any help here ? Thanks in advance

It is... but my daughter (aged15) takes my youngest to school and I’m unable to reschedule holidays as I take time off during the school holidays not during term time

That is no concern of the school though.  The holiday is still in term time so its not as if the 15 year old is going to be elsewhere that week.

You say you don't take time off in term time: September is term time so what arrangement had you put in place for your youngest daughter had the trip happened as scheduled?

I had my eldest daughter (30) in place for this September, school trip originally suggested by school September 2019 so well before covid, I  appreciate your response, thought perhaps the school should have claimed a refund from the school travel provider then put the suggestion regarding a possible rescheduled trip, the trip will now be £700 for 4 days (+ 1day travel) and I would not have paid that

If the cost has gone up 20 or so percent then yes they certainly should have done so.

Did you really expect them to ask everybody what date is convenient for them? How do they normally set the date?  I guess they set a date during term time like they normally do and you have the option for her either to go or not to go

This is no different to any other trip/holiday which people have booked.

You paid for the trip based on a date which was convenient at a price you were willing to pay.

As the terms under which you booked have been changed by the provider you are entitled to a full refund.

I doubt the provider cancelled it at this stage. Rather the school decided to change the date.
