White gloss paint which doesn't discolour

Going to paint skirting boards and door frames soon. Can you recommend a white gloss paint which doesn't turn yellow.
Is it best to buy a water based paint and is it good practice to lightly sand the existing paint before applying the new paint?

I have used both Wickes and Johnsons white gloss WATER based recently. The Wickes is still brilliant white over 2 years on. The only thing is that these paints don't come up super glossy but they have a nice sheen........

For our main living spaces we went matt on the woodwork and it looks good.

In general I would say that the cheapest paints are more likely to yellow quicker than the more expensive ones. So don't buy the cheapest but you don't need the most expensive.

I recently used Crown Trade Satin water based for skirtings & doors as I prefer it to full gloss. Went on like a dream, so will definitely use it again. I used a roller on the doors to avoid brush marks.

I didn't do any sanding on the doors or the frames, but did on the skirtings where it looked as if it would give a better finish.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Johnstones Aqua, around £25 for 2.5 litres. Need the aqua undercoat to base coat.
Excellent opacity and as its water based its non yellowing.

Make sure you use a synthetic brush to apply

All oil-based white paints yellow, if not exposed to direct daylight.
As far as I know, no water-based white paints yellow. There may be some really cheap makes that do, but have not come across them.
  • You can try Dulux Quick Dry. It is good for both metal and wood. Johnstone’s One Coat White Gloss Paint could also be a great option because it is not only good for coating but also odourless as compared to other oil-based paints. Yes, I would prefer the oil ones.

I've used a variety over the years and all the oil based ones have yellowed to some degree,  one of the water based ones have so far. I prefer Screwfix own brand and Wilkos personally, but, as above, it's harder to get a good finish with water based
