How do i stand with this? i booked a short trip to italy on 6th july  - 10th july. with things as they are i cant go. firstly i was taking the wife away without the kids and the grandparents were having the kids for us. Now the grandparents cant look after them because of the restrictions. secondly ryanair have cancelled my flight home but the departing one is still on. we booked hotels which are refusing refunds and the opera also refusing a refund. kinda lost and stuck with no where to go. the credit card says unless they cancel and are open for service i lose out.

Did you make separate DIY bookings yourself or was it booked as a package?

    Do you have travel insurance?

Are the hotel and opera open on the proposed dates? If they are, it's not really their fault that you are not able to get there. If they're closed then you've more of an arguement for getting a refund.
What reason have the insurance given for declining a claim? Did you have any sort of disruption cover?
If all else fails, is it possible to transfer the  booking for another date?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

If they are open then it is not their fault you can't go. That is why they have cancellation clauses. Otherwise everybody would just book things and cancel last minute if plans change. Try changing the booking date, take the children maybe.
