Getting a mortgage when working for family

Hi!
Myself and my partner have just found our first home and have been turned down for a mortgage because my partner works for family. We have had AIP in place then when looking at wage slips the mortgage lender declined because he works for family. We have now found another lender and sent HMRC evidence of his employment but my mortgage advisor isn’t sure if this will still be enough. We are a bit stuck on where to go next as we can’t provide anymore evidence that the job is genuine. Has anyone else had this problem and have a solution?

He is employed by a sole-trader family member?
Or he is employed by a limited company which happens to be owned by family members?
Or he is self-employed, and works under casual contract?
  • He works for his dad’s company in property maintenance. He is paid under PAYE and his dad is self employed.
  • What kind of employment are we talking here? My husband and I both work full time on permanent contracts for a LTD company owned by my parents and it never even cropped up as an issue. Although we have a different surname to them, so maybe that’s why no one noticed but we were never told it could be a problem!
