Hoeseasons Holiday facilities reduced - Can I get a discount/refund

Hi
We booked our holiday in January 2020 (Pre-Covid), and are due to go on holiday on 18th July 2020 with Hoseasons.  If I booked the holiday today on the Hoseasons site, they are offering a 25% discount due site no longer being able to guarantee that a number of facilities will be available - Swimming pool, Restaurants etc.  I will be speaking to Hoseasons to see if I can get the reduction for this, but does anyone know where I stand legally with regards to this?  Could I cancel the holiday due to these changes? and would my deposit be at risk?

Any information would be helpful - I need to pay the remaining balance in the next 4 days.

Thanks

Neil

  • What are the figures involved?   What are the terms for cancellation?   Significant changes would possibly enable you to obtain a refund of all, including deposit,  but from what I can gather 'significant' changes are a grey area and you would have to prove that the changes they have implemented for safety reasons would ruin your holiday totally.   Nobody really knows yet what it will be like.

If you have only paid the deposit and definitely would not go, no matter what, you may still have to pay whatever  is in the terms and agreements. (how many days is it before you go and check the terms).

Not what you want to hear but lots of people in same situation.   I am the eternal optimist so I am going on my holiday in August (providing I am permitted to do so) and hoping to have a fabulous time despite certain restrictions.

If you cancel then I would assume under the terms and conditions you would at least lose your deposit. There's also a chance that this close to the booking that you are actually liable for the full amount.

Have you actually asked hoseasons what's available to you and if they are offering a reduction ?

  • The deposit we have paid is £400, and the remaining £1700 is due in the next few days.  So I don't really want to cancel as I would lose the £400.
Hoseasons are a frustrating company to deal with during Covid - I have now been on hold for over 90 mins trying to get in touch with them. I have tried on social media before, but they never get back to you.  I have now used the Resolver site so I can at least track any communication with them.  I can then use this should I look at taking legal action to try an recover some of the costs of the holiday.
I would prefer to just talk to someone, but it is proving very difficult.
  • RESULT: I've just got off the phone with Hoseasons after 2 hours on hold, and found out that they had reduced my booking by around 25% at 10.15am this morning.

Looks like I didn't need to be on hold for all of that time, but at least this bit is sorted.

    Thanks to everyone who commented.
