Charging back part of the payment...

Anyone got any advice on how or if you can charge back part of a Credit Card payment?

We booked an ABTA/ATOL package protected holiday. Travel agent been dreadful from the start. After threatening legal action and refusing to back down I got the hotel portion of my holiday back with the promise of the flight element back within 6 to 8 weeks (I booked as a package so the payments were never broken down this way it was just one lump sum for the holiday).

We are no 8 weeks down the line. I contacted them at 6 weeks to check it was on track, again at 7 weeks and phoned today only to be fobbed off with the person that is dealing with it isn't in today.

I can't see the money materialising from them anytime soon so wanted to know if it possible to chargeback just a portion of the total payment (i.e. the amount outstanding for the flights).

Alternatively, can I chargeback the whole lot and when I recieve it pay the Travel Agent back the portion they refunded me for the hotel - or would that be seen as fraud?

You can do a partial Chargeback for the missing amount.
New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

Which airline is it? Some have not even begun to refund agents and in these circumstances, you may find the bank is reluctant to agree on a chargeback
  • BA. But I booked as a package through the Travel Agent (not BA Holidays). So irrelevant that BA haven't refunded them - my package is with them.

If it is an atol protected holiday you should get your money back quickly if the holiday is cancelled

since they are messing you around do a chargeback for the amount you are missing

Alternatively fill in and submit an ATOL claim form that should wake them up

Yes in reality that certainly isn't the case though we all know it should have been!

ATOL claim wont apply though. The company hasn't gone under.

BA are refunding agents who put claims in, so there is no excuse. As noted above this is not an ATOL Claim give the agent 7 days to refund and if not make a chargeback
