Australia travel in November

we booked flights and hotels on credit card early January for a trip in November to Australia. At that time I had an annual travel policy which would have covered the current situation. It expired in March and I renewed it but it does not cover COVID cancellation. If I cancel now I lose about £400 on flights, and £300 in non refundable hotels. Singapore airlines have said wait until September- my worry is that there may be a scheduled flight but if we have to quarantine 14 days there and 14 days on return it is not worth us going. Any suggestions??

We’re in a similar situation other than we’re due to go to Australia mid September & also flying Singapore Airlines. We’re waiting on the situation changing in Australia as we obviously don’t want to quarantine for 2 weeks out of our 3 week stay. If there is still 14 day quarantine over there, we will look to move our trip to next year, could you do that?0

It’s possible your insurer will cover you after renewal. Read the MSE email where they covered that scenario and said people would keep their cover on renewal.1

Have you confirmed you are not covered?
Australia entry requirements
You can only travel to Australia if you are an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, an immediate family member of an Australian citizen or permanent resident or are a New Zealand citizen usually resident in Australia.
As the situation is still very fluid the best you can do is hang on and see what happens.
Do NOT cancel the trip yourself!

Our daughter is a permanent resident in Australia but I believe we would still have to complete 14 days quarantine on arrival if that’s still in place when we’re due to arrive.
We have no intention of cancelling!0 -
I'm afraid you are not classed as immediate family by Australian immigration for this purpose.
Copied from official page.https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/immediate-family-australian-citizen-or-permanent-resident
You are only considered to be an immediate family member if you are:
- a spouse
- a de facto partner
- a dependent child/ren
- a legal guardian.
