British Gas ruining my credit score

Options
I need help! In December I signed up to Experian. In February my credit score suddenly took a nose dive. After looking I saw British Gas had said I was in arrears for £321. Looking back that amount was sat at exactly the same amount since October 2013 and wasn’t changed to in arrears until February reporting! I am in the same property and have smart meters that were installed 4 years ago and what I owed at the time was added on. I’ve brought this up with British Gas as I’ve never had a bill for this. They said they Didn’t understand it themselves. After many hours to different departments on the phone I’ve put it in as a complaint. I got a text today saying complaint will be closed beginning of July as they can’t find any issues!! I was bankrupt between Oct 2012 and discharged Oct 2013 so it seems to be a temporary account they set up then. I have never had a bill for it! I have managed to get my credit score up to a decent level over the past 3 years yet it’s now falling 40 odd points every month due to this... advice and help needed please

  • Just to add, since I told them in February they still haven’t sent me a bill and can’t even take a payment as they can’t find the department it’s held with on their systems!!

Escalate a formal complaint. If no joy, go via the CRAs and ICO .

Worth pointing out that when the issue is resolved, don't be concerned when your credit score further because of the change.  Lenders only concern themselves with the data on your files, not the pretend score the CRAs give you.
