Plumber's negligence caused damage

Hi all,
The flush on the only toilet in our house stopped working just over 3 weeks ago. Our Home Emergency covered this and they sent a plumber out to fix the problem. When completing the job, somehow he has caused a leak which we only caught within the last week or so. Carpet in the hallway upstairs was soaked, the bathroom door has soaked up some of this water and now can't close, there's stains on the ceiling below where the toilet is and the bathroom flooring definitely needs replacing. I have got in contact with Home Emergency and they're lodging a complaint but have advised that its hard to prove negligence. Looking at the reviews for the company who undertook the job, it seems this has happened a few times and they've wormed their way out of fixing the damage they've caused.
What I would like to know is, what are my rights concerning the damage caused by the plumbers? Am I entitled to them fixing the damage?

Whenever I do any plumbing work or if I get someone in to do it, I always check all around the area every day for at least a week, just to make sure. How did you miss your hallway carpet getting wetter and wetter?1

Are you certain the two events are connected? Or is this a guess?
I'm surprised that its managed to do so much damage to the bathroom floor that it will need replacing, soaked the hall carpet and you did not notice in 3 weeks it was getting a touch damp under foot.2 -

It didn't appear wet straight away, this started about a week and a half ago. In that week and a half, we have used both a dehumidifier and a hairdryer to try and dry the area. It soon became apparent that it was a larger problem and it was only Saturday that we found the cause of it.ssparks2003 said:Are you certain the two events are connected? Or is this a guess?

I am 100% certain these events are connected from the plumbers description of the job to us after it was completed.0 -
It seems odd that you had work done and then a week and a half later a leak appears, it sounds more like the plumber has indirectly distributed and existing poor joint and this has started to leak rather than anything else.0
