Transferring contacts etc. from old phone to new.

I seem to have wasted hours trying to work out how to transfer my contacts & data etc from my old dinosaur iphone to a new android phone. No matter which steps I try to follow on youtube videos, I'm getting nowhere. I'm unsure of what if anything I'm doing wrong, but do wonder if I'm supposed to have a separate & fully operational sim in both phones to succeed at transferring? Currently I've been trying with a fully operational sim in the new phone & an old defunct one in the old iphone.
I feel if I don't get advice from some helpful person here I'll scream as it's really doing my head in. As you may guess I'm not technically minded, so please take pity on me.

The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Well if you'd gone from Android to Android it would have sorted itself out when you sign into your Google accountFew ways here:Exporting to your new Gmail account (which you get when you set up a Play Store account) as in method 4 might be the easiest way.1

Depending on the number of contacts that you have - I would recommend writing them down and keeping it somewhere safe just in case of catastrophe !Then its a relatively simple job of typing them back in to the Android phone (or if you want to "import them" from a file on your PC via a back up utility)1

How many contacts do you have?

I think there are about 25, but I could probably delete a couple of those.
If typing them in individually is going to save my sanity, then it will be worth it, but just hoping for an easier way.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

Just type them in - it will be quicker and better for blood pressure......1

make sure you don't save them to sim on your new phone as you will be very limited to content and flexibility. you need to sync them to your google/apple account. i also keep a back up of all my contacts in csv format in excel. if you have the option connect old phone to pc and export as a csv file to excel. you can import them to new phone from there if needed but its far easier just to sync contacts to a account once you have them on your new phone"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson1

If you had 250 contacts then that's a different matter!1
