Where can we go that is like turkey was 10/15 yrs ago? We go to turkey usually twice per year but, have had enough of the resorts that are now just bumping up the prices for tourists and, the service is no where near what it used to be. The turkish people are lovely but, the big resorts are just getting so greedy now.

sounds like you need to try some of the quieter greek islands... paxos, lesvos etc.
www.olympicholidays.co.uk has a good site with plenty of information and offers0 -
Try exploring the parts of Turkey that have not yet been developed for tourism. How about the Black Sea coast? Or even the far East (but not too close to the border with Iraq)?0

Thanks for the replies both OH and myself quite like the idea of the black sea coast.0

Turkey's a big place. Are you talking exclusively about beach holidays?0

I do prefer a beach holiday but, we also like to take ourselves off to visit places of interest. We went to a place named yashi beach in turkey many years ago and it was fab hardly any tourists, lovely little turkish village, huge beach and a regular dolmus service to bodrum and surrounding area.0

Turkey is still a wonderful country.
My advice is stay out of the main resorts.
take Kusadasi for example, travel 12 miles down the coast and you will come across places like Guzelcamli .
A typical turkish town-village where the locals are friendly ,the prices probably a third of resort prices.
Spivs in the resorts are spoiling things but will cut their own throats ,so to speak.0 -
you could always try north cyprus (turkish owned - sort of!).0

Took a trip to the occupied northern part of Cyprus earlier this year and it was like a throw back in time. Very run down. We went to the resort of Kyrenia(I think) and felt really uncomfortable with the constant pestering of the restuarants/cafe and boat trip operators trying to get you to part with your money. I don't think we're that strange but the locals kept stirring at us. Not a place I would like to walk around at night. Really put us off going to Turkey.. We was really pleased to get back to the very nice Cyprus that we love.. It was a shame to see because every Greek Cypriot we spoke told us the northern part of the island was the most beautiful.. Hopefully it will become that again very soon.
I know this is not the place to discuss this but because rightz suggested the occupied nothern part of the island I would give my own personal experience.sometimes you're the pigeon, sometimes you're the statue!0
