Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

Well I actual owned a 2015 Outlander PHEV and ran it new to 120,000 miles. It gave very little trouble and still drove perfectly on leaving me. A few things to watch out for, they are a bit notorious for seizing brake calipers, especially the back. Mitsubishi did have a free retro fit that if the car has been serviced at Mitsubishi should have been done. Also test drive and on slow pull away and stop feel/listen for an initial knock/thud. Early cars had a rear motor mount that could break allowing some twist and a thud, again most Mitsubishi dealers would have fixed at some point. Battery degradation is just not a problem, the cells are well managed and temperature controlled. More the case of summer vs winter, the car has electric cabin heating so winter months EV range is dire unless you freeze. Its a relief when the warmer months come and it soars up again. The paint is eco and not very tough, stone chips badly. The Windscreen is very upright and doesn't like stone hits, I got through 3 so check its 100% intact before buying.
The boot isn't that small, same as any mid sized SUV, tons of space under floor for stuff, sadly no spare wheel possible.
The seats are not good for lumbar support and foam gets pretty flat with high mileage, be sure you feel comfortable in them.
Even when the battery runs out, driven with care its quite possible to get at least 40mpg just running on petrol, although any heavy footing will knock it down, its also easy to get it down to 28mpg if you want.
Just to finish that I would also head the financial advice in this thread carefully. My advice is purely factual on buying right, in that respect an old high mileage Outlander PHEV is not a bad buy, its not that complex in reality and I have no doubt it can do vast mileage without breaking a sweat, its Japanese.0
