PURCHASED A MOTORBIKE IN NOVEMBER STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT
Good afternoon request advice please.
I purchased a honda cbf 600 motorbike in november.
A few weeks after purchased I noticed the manual choke was stiff and would not work which caused issues with starting the bike.
I took the bike back to the dealer and the sprayed it with lubricant .
Nothing changed and I still had issues. Also the gear leaver fell off the bike on a journey.
In january i had the dealer replace the choke cable.
Now I'm still finding issues with the bike and the battery not holding the charge for me to start the bike.
Due to covid 19 I could not get the bike in to repair.
I am now still having issues which due to the problems can I get a refund on the bike as I do not trust it.

How old a bike are we talking about?0

It's an 06 plate mate purchased from a motorbike dealer with 5000miles on the clock also still having choke issues again as I have to manually hold choke out to start bike instead of pulling choke out start bike then let bike warm up and then I reinvest manually. The choke slides back in as soon as I ketnit go. Talking on various forums to honda owners I've been told this should not happen0

So a 14yo bike, and you're expecting comeback from the dealer over trivialities like a knackered battery after seven months?
Got to admire an optimist...4 -
Your choke issue would be easily (and cheaply) remedied by any competent mechanic. And batteries fail. You will be lucky to get more that a few years our of a motorcycle battery and they are relatively cheap to replace. Honda motorcycles are generally very will built and last well when properly looked after.
What other issues are putting you off the bike.0 -
I miss my hornet!
Just buy a new battery and fit it - they're a consumable item. And get the choke mechanism sorted at it's service.0 -
It really was a "gear leaver" then if it fell off.
Seriously, as already said, 14 year old bike with small problems you'd expect.
I'd have just sorted them myself.
I don't know about Hondas now, but the fuel tank used to be dead easy to get off to get at things like the carbs and linkages.
Battery, you need to check the voltages to see if it's charging, and what the actual state of the battery is after standing for a few hours.
It's a motorbike. You really should check the whole thing over at least weekly to look at levels, pressures and condition of tyres, and that everything is done up correctly.
Sounds like the pin had fallen out of the gear lever clamp all together, because IIRC, bike levers have a groove that the shank of the bolt engages in to stop the lever falling off if it loosens.

Honda's are prone to frying their regulator/rectifiers, these regulate the charge voltage back to the battery and rectifies the AC output to DC via diodes inside.
They produce a fair amount of heat and they aren't always fitted in an area to dissipate it properly, so tend to overheat and breakdown. This can cause the battery to drain when stood or just flatten as you ride as it's no longer charging.
Lots of help on the 'net about testing them.
The choke lever on the handlebar sounds like it might be broken or loose but add that to the gear lever falling off might be a sign it's been dropped on that side and someone has bodged a repair.
Also the gear lever isn't a direct fit on the shaft, but are set back with an arm and a couple of pivots, some owners flip the arm and the pivot to change the gear selection from one down the rest up to one up and the rest down (like race bikes to make is easy to change up cranked over).
If they've done this in the past, they might have damaged the cup and ball pivots or splines on the shaft.

I'd be surprised if someone race-modded a CBF600 ....... 🙄0

Surprise surprise! Not your average commuter. There was even a CBF600 race series proposed at one point to replace the CB500 Thundersport race series as the Twin pot CB500 engine isn't Euro complaint. Not sure if it's off the ground yet.If it has an engine, someone will try and race it.
