Does anyone have any idea on how to make curly toed ali baba shoes for a fancy dress party? Got the rest of the costume, but can hardly wear trainers on my feet!

Hi - can't help with the curly toed bit, but how about a pair of ballerina slippers/shoes, there are loads around at the moment as they are still quite 'in'. Then use some glue and glitter or sequins if you have any.

Ballet shoes but fix the curled up bit to the front, then dye the whole thing to match.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

You can actually buy them quite cheaply in asian clothes shops!
Alternatively, why not buy a cheap pair of the sequined mules in fashion now and get creative with some fabric and pipe cleaners? If you cover the pipe cleaner with matching fabric then curl the pipe cleaner up - will that work?

Thanks for the replies, but my OH's are the real problem. I've sorted me out (charity shop purchase), but his are proving very problematic. I think I'm just going to have to glitz up his slippers.0

How about flip flops for him ? With a few sequins stuck on and/or spray them gold?

Use his slippers as a base, then sew fabric to them to make a kind of false top in the shape you want.
Make a newpaper template / pattern so that you can experiment without wasting the fabric. Stuff the extended toe piece with cotton wool, then bend it over and catch stitch in place. Pipe cleaners have already been suggested as a way of supporting the shape.
I am sure I saw this in Jane Asher's fancy dress book, but that was years ago.
Do you think it would be worth putting this on Old Style for all the crafty people?I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Thanks again for the great ideas. As I've not got a sewing machine, I'm going to have to start employing mice.0

Has he got an old pair of slippers?
Buy some cheap felt, cut it to two banana shapes and hand stitch the toe part into a curved v shape, stuff the toes with stuffing and a pipe cleaner (if you get my meaning). Glue this to the outside of the slippers, cut off any excess, bend them over to curl the toes and stick a pom pom on the end.
You could decorate with sequins and glitter.
Probably clear as mud but I hope you get the idea.:D"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye" - Miss Piggy0 -
