Hi everyone, hope you all doing good,
I had few questions since my contract about end plus am a curious person 😉
When you leave a provider or come out contract? Does your internet use go !!!!!! or do they sell them on 😂 or do they keep customers details as policy?
Don't worry am not hiding anything dirty 😂
So while doing my research to find cheap deal. I came across how some providers give little extra to help with security. E.g sky shield, so am guessing this something built in not need installation and They probably may not replace security softwares but are these BB providers protection perks decent enough to have ? I noticed few BB have similar stuff to sky shield
Sorry for oddly long topic 😅

Sky Shield, BT Protect etc. don't matter to me ... if my ISP offers such options I make sure they're turned off. I'd rather manage my own protection, thank you.
Certain customer details will be kept as a matter of course due to legal requirements (e.g. financial regulations).
PS - this topic is better suited to the Broadband board.1 -
Customer details are kept by most companies for xx period .Or do you mean a list of all the web sites you have visited ??As DoaM post all depends upon what they are adding security wise . Likewise all turned off unless its a product i actually want .I never ever start by looking at CHEAP rather finding what i want and best supplier . Pointless paying cheap for a poor service .1

I just noticed I posted in wrong section 😔 how do I move it?
@DoaM @JJ_Egan Thank you both for the information, Both really sites visited, customer details. Always wondered what happens to it all. If just for financial regulation and stuff like ways to improve. Then cool, I always thought they sold customers information to advertiser's and Google
Well Looking at sky and virgin as example, They cover stuff like virus, malware , safe sites etc. From what I gathered you just enable and it protects all device, I usually run my own but ones ISP have Sky shield , web safe ( virgin) etc are they developed well enough to use ? I couldn't find any review or test for them
My top priority is top service and good connection but thought find out about other features. Before I decide on what I wanna do

If you're a click-happy eejit who doesn't think about what's being clicked (or you have house members who are so inclined) then such features can be beneficial. But they're all or nothing - they don't discriminate between someone who knows what they're doing and wants to visit that site which the ISP thinks is dodgy, and the person who accidentally clicked that link.1

<My top priority is top service and good connection>Stop looking for cheap if you want the above .Good connection is often at the mercy of your local phone cable and distance .Top service for what ??? most users never need customer services .Zen or A&A are probably the best ISPs .Me its BT as they have what i want at a reasonable price .2

Nearly dittoEE part of the BT group but it was a bit cheaper at the time of ordering.Been with Plusnet (also part of BT group - fine too but not best deal at renewal) Talk talk and Sky. Would not go back to latter two as had problems with TT and Sky insisted on functionality on landline that was not wanted that caused issues for incoming unexpected callers (officials that needed to get through but were prevented such as appointment automated reminder services) and then had awful experience with them and limited number of router ports to two and tie to their router.......)All use openreach for connection so not much to choose between them for that.(Virgin main exception)If there are issues then that is mainly when customer service comes to the fore. No call for that in last two years!Zen consistently best by Which report...but you pay a lot more for it!OP what constitutes top service in your opinion?Good connection? Is that speed (should be the same across openreach connections), speed limiting at busy times, reliability or what?1

For me, good service is when I never ever have to talk to them about the service, other than to negotiate price each year. I've stuck with Virgin for years, not cheap but consistent (400Mb at present). However Vodaphone/Cityfiber have now been installed giving gigabit connections for a chunk less than Virgin, so, come August, if Virgin can't compete, I'll give them a try.

Thanks everyone, When I refer to good service, it's when I need to ring up the provider ( if the need arises, ) My worst experience was with talktalk, glad I left them.
Unfortunately sometimes I have to ring my provider 😅 but connections have improved,
But am set know, my current provider sorted me out with a deal 😊. Just didn't want pay 47 pounds 😔0
