Hi all,
I am after some advice, we purchased our first house 3 and a half years ago, and we have finished the inside completely walls knock down kitchen diner extension etc all upstairs completed.
We currently have a porch attached to the front of our house and we are looking to modernise it: it’s currently PVC old and out dated.
the question I have is will this add value if we modernise is, add spot lights new windows and remove the old and outdated PVC. New brickwork etc. Brand new modern door etc. We are talking about completely taking the old one out.

Also we intend to block page the drive way, this will mean we can add another car onto the drive will this also add value? The kerb appeal it will add also once fully finished.
Doing the work downstairs and upstairs, we have already added substantial value to the property it’s just the question of porch we scratching our heads on?

Adding ‘value’ is a difficult one, I’m not sure it will add any money onto the value of your home. It will certainly add ‘kerb appeal’ to make your house look more attractive when you want to sell it and having more off street parking is always a bonus.0

I guess it comes down to the relative value of the house, and how much this new porch will cost. Ditto for the driveway.
Are you planning to sell soonish? If not, you'll enjoy the improvements yourself for as long as you are there, and then should find it's far more desirable when you do come to sell.
Kerb appeal' is important, no question. A cheap-looking PVC porch would certainly put me off, and a well-designed porch - styled in keeping with the rest of the house - would undoubtedly be attractive to most punters. Porches are great! Genuinely useful additions, as well as adding visual interest.
The same applies to block-paving - this, for most folks, is probably the preferred driveway surface. Choose it wisely, making sure it really fits in.
As for whether it's financially worth it, I refer you to my opening sentence :-)0 -
Hi there, Jeepers.
Thanks for your reply:
We was going to move, in next two years however due to the pandemic. We not moving for the next 5 or 6 years. We’re both 31 now and we have room for when we start a family.
As for the block paving, yes we would make sure it matches the house to add appeal.
Our porch is a good size, room for coats and trainers, we in fact may add storage solution via a joiner.
