Old door frame cracking

Hi,
I have a crack in a shape of a doorway in my kitchen wall which seems to be an old door frame That was covered with plaster board, can anyone please advice on what’s the proper way to fix it so that the crack does not happen again.

How wide is the crack, when you tap the wall where the door was and then the adjacent wall how different do they sound?0
