You need to nail down one of the stewards and find out what they have to say on the matter, especially given the potential sums involved? Have the stewards not consulted with their members thus far?Chris_derby said:

I don't see what the unions can do. It is in the contract that they can be moved to different shifts, there is nothing unfair about this clause. That has happened, the only cause for complaint the OP has is that he hasn't received the required notice period but whether this needs to be provided is debatable as he is not actually working at the moment.
