Mastercard - purchase protection for accidental damage?

So, a screen repair for a dropped iPad Air 3 is £370! (apparently the screen can't be removed from the device so in effect your repair fee pays for a replacement iPad). Happy days.
A rather long shot here, but on Mastercard's website under card benefits it states "Provides coverage for most items you purchase with your eligible Mastercard if the item is damaged or stolen within 90 days of the date of purchase."
I suspect eligible is the key word, but has anyone heard of any successes with this with a "regular" Mastercard?
Mine's is with RBS - I called them tonight but have to wait til Monday to speak with the retail team. (the iPad was bought last month)

Please refer to your issuing financial institution for complete coverage terms and condition*So you’ll probably find that RBS don’t offer that particular benefit, so you’ll have to pay for it to be repaired yourself.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:1 -
I guess you didn’t read my post - I specifically highlighted the “eligible” term, as it logically means that not all providers offer the benefits mentioned. I also mentioned I’d called RBS, ie I contacted the issuing financial institution.dr_adidas01 said:

As I’ll have to wait a couple of days for a conclusive answer from RBS I thought it would be interesting to see if anyone else had any experience of this, good or bad. What a strange reply.0 -
I found the reply to be 100% accurate.0

The OP has already contacted their "financial institution", so done what the small print has says ∴ why would anyone think they hadn't read it.

Because if they had read all the small print from the provider they will already know the answer.Life__Goes__On said:

This is a selling point benefit for a card, an unusual one now though but if they did provide it, it wouldn't just be in the small print but a headline too.0 -
Didn't you notice that the small print quote wasn't from the provider! it was from the Mastercard sitebris said:

Hopefully someone will put the goalposts back into place.

OP, I have a RBS Mastercard (one with low APR and no forex fees)) and having read through the account t&c's there's nothing which states that accidental damage insurance (or any other kind of insurance) is included for any goods purchased with the card. I suspect the blurb on Mastercard's website is just generic info which may apply to some Mastercards, typically those where you pay an annual fee for such features.1

Not been anything like that in the UK for years by the main providers.Life in the slow lane1
