US Internal Flight Refund?

Hi Folks,

I have a trip booked from the UK to the US in August, flying to Orlando and returning from New York back to the UK with Virgin Atlantic. I have a (non-refundable) internal flight booked from Orlando to New York with Delta Airlines.

I expect the Virgin flights to be cancelled, but the Delta flight to still go (as it domestic US). My question is, what is the likelihood of being able to get a refund on the internal US flight on the grounds that a travel ban to the US still in place, or I otherwise cannot get there due to Virgin cancelling the flight? Do we think Delta or the Credit Card company would entertain this claim?

Many thanks in advance.

If the flight flies you won't have any luck with your credit card, the only hope is Delta will give you a voucher for future travel (highly doubtful you will get a refund, but all you can to is ask)
If you have travel insurance, that might be another route.

You might find that the Virgin flights are not cancelled - they are meant to be starting again at the beginning of July ...

  • Virgin flights are starting to Orlando from 20th July and despite Delta being 49% shareholder in Virgin, if the flight is operating they are under no obligation to refund and that means no breach of contract on their part and no obvious claim against the card used to book the flight. Do you have insurance that might cover the cost?
