Faulty vehicle
Hello I'm hoping somebody can help . We have a zafira tourer 2015 plate that we have on finance. The car had done 19000 when we got it just over three years ago and is now at 32800 miles. The crankshaft has moved by between 8-9 mm and obviously that shouldn't happen. I have been into vauxhall and they have been awful especially the manager , he was extremely rude towards myself which reduced me to tears and that is not acceptable. We have already paid a lot in finance and still have £8000 plus owing and a car no longer fit for purpose. We have had the run around now for three weeks and just not getting any where. Is there anything you could possibly do in regards to help.

The car is 5 years old.You have had it 3 years and done 13.8K miles in it.I am afraid you are pretty much down to manufacturer goodwill. Other than that it will be down to you to commission an independent report stating that the fault was inherent, likely very costly but would be refunded with a successful claim. That type of wear could be down to driving technique.2

OK I will bite.
Crankshaft moved 9mm?? The engine would probably smash itself to bits in seconds or seize solid.
Take it to a different garage if your not happy with that one. Buy a new engine or get the current one
rebuilt.

I wonder if it's just the pulley that has moved and not the actual crankshaft. Not familiar with that engine so I don't know how it's secured on but I know of a few examples from other manufacturers where the crankshaft pulley falling off was a common problem.EDIT: Upon googling it appears it uses a dampened crankshaft pulley. The outer bit of the pulley is attached to the inner bit of the pulley by a big rubber ring that absorbs the vibrations. What has most likely happened is that for whatever reason either the rubber ring has failed or the glue holding it all together has so I expect that it's actually the pulley that has gone for a bit of a walk, an 8-9mm stroll in your case, and not the actual crankshaft because as forgotmyname said it would have smashed the engine to bits by now.The parts are cheap, it's not even an hour's labour. I'd expect it to be repaired for sub £100-£150.1

Thanks for the reply. The car is 4 years old was a 65 plate. I'm not sure just know I have been advised it should not require a new engine especially at such low mileage. Hopefully Vauxhall will help

I have had the car looked at by three mechanics just so I didn't look daft when I went into vauxhall. I'll ask one of them to double check that for me . Thanks again0
