Amazon Music / Amazon Kindle Unlimited

Hi,
I called Amazon to query why there had been a £7.99 debit on my account for Amazon Music, something I have never signed up for. I do, however, pay for an Amazon Prime subscription. To cut a long story short, it’s not for Amazon Music at all, it’s actually for Kindle Unlimited Books. Amazon have been taking £7.99 a month from me for the last 6 years for this Kindle service. I’ve never used the service. It’s possible that I clicked on a free trial 6 years ago and fell into a trap, but I had to download the Kindle app to see what its all about. I read a book a year if I’m lucky, and I have boxes of books to work through before I’d buy another thing to read.

I requested a refund, due to never having used the service, and was disgusted to learn that they had taken nearly £600 from me over 6 years. The best they reckon they can do is a £7.99 refund for the current month. Do I have any rights or recourse? Have any other members experienced similar injustices from Amazon?

We have just signed up to the 2 month free trial but it does make it clear they will charge £7.99 a month but you can cancel at any time. I intend on cancelling and only signed up as my son has read every book in the house!coledvd said:Hi,

It's not really Amazon's fault that you don't check through your bank account on a regular basis. I mean, I'm a bit rubbish at checking, but I know roughly what the balance should be, and every 3 months I have a good look through at all my payments to check I recognise everything.
All you can do is show them you have never taken a book out (it is a kind of library and keeps a log of what is taken out) and see if they could at least refund a bit more... but any refund will be a good will gesture.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
The subscription would also have appeared every month on your Amazon orders.0

The amount would be on your bank statement.
I take it you do check your statements, go through each 1 with a fine tooth comb, maybe you missed it.0 -
It is possible to 'fiddle' with this subscription. Sign up for a month, then a couple of days before next payment is due borrow 10 books then turn the kindle wifi off. The 10 books will be there to read until you turn the wifi back on.0

Yes, they appear under the membership and subscriptions tab but you also see it under your orders each time it renews. I've got "orders" this month for Kids Unlimited and Unlimited Reading and last month was also my annual renewal for Unlimited Music. How many ways do they need to remind you of your on going subscription - email, a subscription tab and orders makes three methods of notification, not forgetting having the physical payment being made from your bank/ card.born_again said:

I don't think that Amazon are at fault that you haven't noticed for six years.
