Hi there all
I have just decided to do up the kitchen and done all the painting and come to thinkabout the flooring.
After moving the fridge freezer to paint the wall I noticed under the carpet (should never have a carpet in the kitchen) some old tiles.
House is a 60s ex council house and I want to take them up and put a new floor down.
However a family member with a similar age ex council house on thensame estate believes these to be asbestos
Any help would be very.mich appreciated
Appreciate it isn't a lot to go on, however I am unwilling to take the carpet up until i have the funds or plan in place to replace it
Thanks for any help that can be provided
Phil

1. They won't be asbestos, but they may contain asbestos, as some vinyl tiles did.
2. They are probably stuck down, and getting them up will crack them, exposing fresh material.
3. I'd get a suitable contracting firm to remove them, dispose of them, and thoroughly clean the area.

Are you sure? It smells like asbestos.0 -
Some 1960s and 70s tiles contained asbestos fibres, you would need them testing if you are concerned.0

they probably contain asbestos yes, but I wouldn't be worried about it, if it's flat enough just floor over the top of it.

Don't smell asbestos mate!
Get it checked. If its low content, your average asbestos removal company down the road can deal with it. High content, is more specialist work. The asbestos co down the road can test it for you, that's the first thing to do.

There was similar in our house under vinyl flooring, we had a flooring company come in and they screed over it to level and then laid new flooring on top. These things are best not disturbed and no harm if left undisturbed.Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20

That sounds like a plan.
I would like to re-tile the floor in grey slate effect tiles.
Suppose it will save trying to level off the floor once i take them up0
